“I Prayed For Death”: Actor Sandeepa Virk Opens Up About Four Months In Tihar Jail

Actor and influencer Sandeepa Virk has spoken candidly about the emotional and physical struggles she faced during her four-month stay in Tihar Jail after being arrested in a money laundering case.

Virk was granted bail by the Delhi High Court in December 2025 in a case registered under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

“I Wouldn’t Wish Tihar On My Worst Enemy”

Speaking in an interview with Simran Jot Makkar, Virk described the trauma she experienced during her incarceration.

Recalling her first day in prison, she said she struggled to understand why she was there. “Tihar is a place I wouldn’t wish even on my worst enemy,” she said, adding that the experience made her question her fate and past actions.

The actor revealed that the emotional pressure became so overwhelming that she sometimes prayed for death. According to her, the most painful moments were when her parents visited her in jail.

“The worst feeling is seeing your parents coming to meet you inside jail. I even apologised to them,” she said, adding that her family stood firmly by her during the difficult period.

Living Conditions And Daily Routine

Virk also spoke about the harsh living conditions inside the prison.

According to her, hundreds of inmates shared limited space, creating constant tension and “domestic politics” among prisoners. She said the stress affected her health to the point where she sometimes struggled to stand without support.

Describing the daily routine, she said prisoners slept on the floor and dealt with unhygienic washrooms. Barracks opened early in the morning, closed around noon, reopened briefly in the afternoon, and were locked again by evening.

Food inside the prison, she said, was repetitive and unappetising, usually consisting of the same dal, vegetables, rotis, and rice every day.

Allegations Of Unequal Treatment

Virk also claimed that inmates with financial resources could get things done more easily inside the prison system.

“In jail, nothing happens without money,” she said, suggesting that those with resources often receive preferential treatment, though she declined to elaborate further.

She also spoke about the stigma she faced after her arrest, saying that many people quickly labelled her a fraud despite her claims of innocence.

Helping Fellow Inmates

After being released on bail, Virk said she stayed in touch with some women she met in jail and helped them secure legal relief.

One woman had allegedly spent months in prison over a theft of ₹3,000 and lacked family support. Another had been jailed after money from a share market-related case was transferred into her account by her husband. Virk said she helped both women obtain bail.

Case Background

Virk spent more than four months in custody over allegations involving proceeds of crime worth around ₹6 crore linked to an investment scam.

According to investigators, a complainant was allegedly promised a lead role in a film and persuaded to invest money. Authorities claim the funds were routed through Virk’s bank accounts and linked to property purchases and an e-commerce venture.

The Delhi High Court granted her bail on December 27, 2025, noting that she had already spent several months in custody and that the trial could take time because the main accused, Amit Gupta, remains absconding.

Industry Reaction

Reflecting on the fallout from the controversy, Virk said many people from the film industry distanced themselves from her after the news broke.

“They unfollowed me, but it doesn’t matter,” she said, adding that success ultimately depends on destiny rather than the support of powerful figures.

Virk has since returned to Mumbai, where she is trying to rebuild her life and career after the legal battle.
