Rajpal Yadav Gets Interim Bail; Lawyer Links ₹9 Crore Cheque Case to Dispute Involving Amitabh Bachchan

New Delhi: Actor Rajpal Yadav has been granted interim bail by the Delhi High Court in an ongoing ₹9 crore cheque-bounce case filed by businessman Madhav Gopal Aggarwal.
Now, his lawyer, Bhaskar Upadhyay, has offered fresh insight into how the financial dispute unfolded — claiming that the controversy traces back to a disagreement during the music launch of the film Ata Pata Laapata.
How the Loan Arrangement Began
According to the defence, Aggarwal had extended a loan of ₹5 crore to Yadav to support the film’s production. A formal agreement was signed between the two parties, followed by three supplementary agreements, the last of which was executed in August 2012.
Under the final agreement, Rajpal Yadav allegedly issued five cheques, which were scheduled to be presented beginning December 2012.
For a while, the arrangement appeared to be proceeding without complications.
The Music Launch That Sparked Tensions
The turning point, Yadav’s lawyer claims, came in September 2012 during the music launch of Ata Pata Laapata.
Upadhyay stated that veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan had agreed to attend the event. However, things reportedly did not go as planned, and a disagreement at the function escalated tensions between the parties.
While specific details of the alleged disagreement were not fully disclosed, the lawyer suggested that the fallout from the event strained relations and eventually contributed to the financial dispute that followed.
Legal Battle Continues
The case revolves around allegations of cheque dishonour amounting to approximately ₹9 crore. With interim bail now granted, the matter remains under judicial consideration, and further proceedings are expected in the coming weeks.
As both sides prepare to present their arguments in court, the episode highlights how business arrangements in the film industry can quickly spiral into prolonged legal battles when trust breaks down.
