Delhi Police Bust Two Women-Led Theft Gangs, Recover Stolen Items Worth ₹1 Crore

Delhi Police on Wednesday dismantled two active women-led criminal gangs — one operating between Gujarat and Delhi, and another based in the Anand Parbat area — involved in multiple high-value thefts targeting women at crowded transit locations.
Five women have been arrested so far, including a repeat offender with 13 prior criminal cases. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways) KPS Malhotra said the arrests followed a tech-driven probe that relied heavily on CCTV footage analysis and human intelligence. Over 100 CCTV clips from various metro and railway stations were reviewed to map the gang’s movements and link incidents across districts.
Both groups used the same modus operandi: operating inside lifts and on escalators during peak hours to quietly snatch jewellery, watches and valuables from women before disappearing back into the crowd.
A crucial breakthrough came from CCTV recordings at Delhi Sarai Rohilla Railway Station and New Delhi Railway Station, where the accused were seen targeting women passengers carrying jewellery or valuables.
Coordinated raids were conducted, leading to the arrest of all key members. Police recovered gold ornaments, luxury watches and cash worth nearly ₹1 crore.
DCP Malhotra said the gangs were highly organised and deliberately targeted women, as jewellery theft in congested spaces offered high returns with minimal risk of detection.
Police have now stepped up surveillance across major stations and urged commuters—especially women—to remain alert in crowded spots like lifts and escalators. The investigation is ongoing, with officers probing possible associates and wider linkages.
