Ranveer Singh Issues Apology After Backlash For Mimicking Kantara’s Daiva Scene At IFFI

Ranveer Singh has issued a heartfelt apology after facing strong criticism for recreating Rishab Shetty’s intense Daiva Chavundi scene from Kantara. The actor posted an emotional note on his Instagram Story, clarifying that his intention was never to offend but to appreciate Rishab’s extraordinary performance.

“My intention was to highlight Rishab’s incredible performance in the film. As an actor, I understand how much commitment and emotional depth it takes to portray a scene like that. He has my highest respect,” Ranveer wrote.
He added, “I have always deeply respected every culture, tradition, and belief in our country. If I’ve hurt anyone’s sentiments, I sincerely apologise.”

What Happened at IFFI, Goa

While promoting his upcoming film Dhurandhar at the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) on November 30, Ranveer enthusiastically recalled watching Kantara in theatres. In a viral clip, he can be seen imitating the Daiva possession moment and even referring to the spirit as a “female ghost,” which upset many viewers.
The online backlash was swift, with several users criticising him for disrespecting sacred traditions. Some even called for a boycott of his upcoming film.

Did Rishab Shetty Caution Him?

According to a report in Bangalore Times, Ranveer had come down from the stage to meet dignitaries, including Rajinikanth and Rishab Shetty. Witnesses say Ranveer got excited upon seeing Rishab and began mimicking the Daiva movements—prompting Rishab to gently ask him to stop.

However, Ranveer later went back on stage and repeated the act. The source added that while Ranveer’s intention was not malicious, his choice of words and performing the act while wearing shoes unsettled many. Rishab, however, remained calm and avoided escalation during the high-profile event.
