Gujarat Woman Murders Two Young Sons For “Ancestor Salvation”, Attempts To Kill Father-In-Law

Ahmedabad:
In a deeply disturbing incident from Gujarat’s Navsari district, a woman allegedly killed her two young sons believing it would lead to the “salvation of her ancestors”. Police arrested the woman, identified as Sunita Sharma, who also attempted to murder her father-in-law before he managed to escape.
The tragic event occurred on Thursday night at an apartment in the Desra area of Bilimora town. Sunita, originally from Uttar Pradesh, lived there with her husband Shivkant, their two sons aged seven and four, and her in-laws, Indrapal and Susri.
According to police officials, Shivkant had been diagnosed with typhoid and was admitted to a private hospital. On Thursday evening, his parents visited him to deliver food and returned home before going to bed. Sunita remained in her bedroom.
Deputy Superintendent of Police B.V. Gohil said Sunita had been mentally disturbed for several days. In the middle of the night, she reportedly began praying to a deity before strangling her two sons, believing the act would bring salvation to her ancestors.
She then went to her in-laws’ room and attempted to strangle her father-in-law. However, Indrapal managed to break free, run out of the flat, and alert neighbours.
Meanwhile, Sunita locked the front door from inside and ignored the neighbours’ attempts to get her attention. A police team soon arrived, forced open the door, and found her sitting next to the bodies of her children. She was immediately taken into custody.
The police are conducting further investigations to determine her mental state and motivations behind the killings.
