Chinese National Branded ‘One of the Most Prolific Sex Offenders’ Sentenced to Life in UK

A Chinese national described by British authorities as “one of the most prolific sex offenders of all time” has been handed a life sentence by a UK court.
Chao Xu, 33, pleaded guilty to 24 sexual offences committed over a period of three years, including rape, assault by penetration, sexual assault, upskirting, and voyeurism.
According to the ruling issued at Woolwich Crown Court in London, Xu must serve a minimum of 14 years before he can be considered for parole, the Metropolitan Police said.
How He Committed the Crimes
Investigators revealed that Xu exploited his role in hosting business events for a university to target women. He allegedly drugged his victims before assaulting them.
Police also discovered that Xu had installed hidden cameras throughout his residence, recording his attacks without the victims’ knowledge. Additionally, he filmed unsuspecting individuals in public spaces, including at London Bridge Underground station, one of the capital’s busiest transport hubs.
Victims and Scale of the Crimes
So far, police have identified seven victims of serious sexual assault, but officers believe the true number of victims is far higher. Evidence indicates that there may be hundreds of victims of voyeurism who remain unidentified.
“We believe he is one of the most prolific sex offenders of all time,” said Acting Detective Superintendent Lewis Sanderson from the Metropolitan Police.
