Bihar Minister Chased And Attacked By Villagers Over Road Accident Deaths

Bihar’s Rural Development Minister, Shrawan Kumar, faced the fury of villagers when he visited Jogipur Malawan village in Nalanda district on Wednesday to meet the families of nine victims who died in a recent road accident.

According to officials, the minister, accompanied by a local MLA, reached the village to offer condolences. However, soon after their arrival, a large group of angry villagers surrounded them, accusing the leaders of showing insensitivity towards the grieving families and failing to provide compensation.

The crowd attempted to attack the minister and the MLA, but both managed to escape unharmed. The minister’s bodyguard, however, was injured in the scuffle and was taken to Hilsa Sub-Divisional Hospital for treatment. As the convoy left, villagers chased their vehicles for nearly a kilometre.

Police intervened to disperse the crowd and have tightened security in the area.

JD(U) spokesperson Dhananjay Dev admitted that public anger was directed at the minister’s working style. Meanwhile, political strategist-turned-activist Prashant Kishor slammed the Nitish Kumar-led government, saying, “This government has beaten students, anganwadi workers, Asha workers, and even sarpanchs. Now it is the public’s turn. When they come to ask for votes, people will chase them away.”
