Teen, Adult Arrested in London Indian Restaurant Arson Attack

London police have arrested a teenager and an adult in connection with an arson attack on an Indian restaurant in Gants Hill that left multiple diners injured.

The incident occurred on Friday night when a fire broke out inside the eatery, causing panic among guests. Three women and two men sustained burn injuries and were treated at the scene by paramedics from the London Ambulance Service. Some were later taken to hospitals, including a major trauma centre.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Rogers of the Met Police’s Central Specialist Crime North unit said, “While we have made two arrests, our investigation continues at pace so we can piece together what happened. I know the community is concerned and shocked. I urge anyone with information to come forward.”

The suspects, currently in custody, have been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. Police added that there may be two more victims who left before officers arrived, and efforts are ongoing to trace them.

Witnesses reported hearing loud screams and said CCTV footage appeared to show a group wearing face coverings entering the restaurant, pouring liquid on the floor, and setting it alight. The London Fire Brigade confirmed that firefighters rescued five people and evacuated several others from the ground-floor venue.

The restaurant, managed by Rohit Kaluvala, is known for its authentic Indian cuisine and has received several curry awards. It regularly caters to cultural, religious, and film industry events. The fire caused extensive damage to the premises, with investigations into its cause still underway.
