Netanyahu To Convene Security Cabinet to Define Gaza War Objectives

Jerusalem:
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Monday that he will convene his security cabinet this week to deliberate on the next steps in the ongoing war in Gaza, including the military’s strategy to fulfill Israel’s stated war goals.

Speaking at a regular cabinet meeting, Netanyahu said,

“We must continue to stand together and fight together to achieve all our war objectives: the defeat of the enemy, the release of our hostages, and the assurance that Gaza will no longer pose a threat to Israel.”

According to Channel 12 News, an official close to Netanyahu indicated the Prime Minister is leaning toward expanding the military offensive, potentially aiming to seize full control of the Gaza Strip. The cabinet is expected to meet Tuesday to finalize strategic decisions.

While Netanyahu’s office has not formally responded to media inquiries, the reported discussions mark a possible escalation in an already devastating conflict.

The war began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched an attack that killed 1,200 people and took 251 hostages, according to Israeli figures. In response, Israel’s offensive has reportedly resulted in the deaths of over 60,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza health officials.

Israeli authorities believe 50 hostages remain in Gaza, but estimate that only 20 are still alive.
