8 Dead, 5 Injured As Jeep Falls Into Gorge In Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh

Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand:
In a tragic accident in Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh district, eight people lost their lives and five others were injured when a jeep veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge on Tuesday.
The mishap took place near Suni village in the Thal area as the passengers were en route to Bokta village, police officials said. According to Thal SHO Shankar Singh Rawat, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to fall into the gorge. The victims included five women and three men—all of whom died on the spot.
Rescue operations were swiftly launched by police and a State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team, with assistance from local residents.
The injured were immediately taken to a hospital in Muwani and are currently receiving medical treatment.
Pithoragarh District Disaster Management Officer Bhupendra Singh Maher confirmed that all deceased individuals were local residents and that their bodies were successfully retrieved from the accident site.
