Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s Rapid Fifty Puts India U19 In Command Against England In Youth Test

Vaibhav Suryavanshi struck a brisk half-century to solidify India U19’s position against England U19 on Day 3 of the first Youth Test. His 56 off just 44 deliveries helped India reach 128/3 in their second innings, extending their overall lead to 229 runs in the four-day encounter.

Suryavanshi, along with captain Ayush Mhatre, gave India a blazing start with a 77-run opening partnership in just 12 overs. Mhatre was eventually dismissed by off-spinner Archie Vaughan — son of former England captain Michael Vaughan — who made a strong impact with figures of 3/14 from 10 overs, also removing Suryavanshi shortly after his fifty.

At stumps, Vihaan Malhotra (34*) and Abhigyan Kundu (0*) were at the crease, looking to build on the growing advantage.

Earlier in the day, England U19 resumed their innings at 230/5 and were eventually bowled out for 439, trimming India’s first innings lead to 101. The middle and lower order powered the hosts’ fightback, with key contributions from Ekansh Singh (59), Thomas Rew (34), Ralphie Albert (50), Jack Home (44), and James Minto (20).

Rew and Ekansh put together an 80-run stand for the sixth wicket, while Home and Minto added 48 runs for the ninth, helping England breach the 400-run mark.

With a solid lead and momentum on their side, India U19 will aim to press for a win on the final day.
