“One Side Mohammed, Other Side Krishna”: Shubman Gill’s Remark Goes Viral During 1st Test

On Day 5 of the first Test between India and England, the visitors found themselves in deep trouble as England surged ahead with a dominant opening partnership. With the hosts reaching 181/0 before rain interrupted play post-lunch, the chances of an Indian comeback seemed to fade. England eventually chased down the remaining runs to win the match and take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
Despite the Indian bowlers struggling to make a breakthrough, skipper Shubman Gill was actively seen motivating his team. One of his comments, captured on the stump mic, quickly went viral across social media. While standing in the slips, Gill was heard saying:
“Ek taraf Mohammed hai, ek taraf Krishna, dono tabahi machayega”
(“One side has Mohammed, the other has Krishna, both will create havoc.”) — a reference to pacers Mohammed Siraj and Krishna.
During the partnership, Ben Duckett capitalized on a dropped chance when Yashasvi Jaiswal failed to hold onto a diving catch off Siraj when Duckett was on 98. He went on to score 149. Zak Crawley, the other opener, received a reprieve earlier in the day when Jasprit Bumrah couldn’t cling onto a return catch.
At Lunch, Duckett had hit 13 boundaries, while Crawley played a steadier knock with 57 runs off 119 balls, including six fours.
Commenting on India’s chances after the first session, former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar shared his thoughts on JioHotstar:
“Are England suddenly favourites? Before the session, I would have said 70-30 in India’s favour. Now it’s 50-50. The pitch offered nothing, even for Bumrah. Maybe it’s the effect of the heavy roller. But after Lunch, if the surface livens up, India might still have a shot.”
He also highlighted England’s strength — their ability to stay calm during high-pressure chases.
