Violent Clash Erupts Between Tourists and Shopkeepers in Haridwar

Chaos broke out in Haridwar’s Har Ki Pauri area on Friday as a minor argument between a group of tourists and local shopkeepers escalated into a violent street fight. What began as a small disagreement soon turned into a brutal brawl involving sticks and even kitchen tools.
A video that surfaced on Saturday shows graphic scenes of violence. One man, visibly injured with blood on his back, is seen wielding a large stick and attacking another person. Several others join in, restraining and beating the victim with slaps, elbows, and even a perforated spatula — typically used for frying food.
The situation spiraled out of control, with both sides suffering injuries. The video ends with the victim clutching another man’s leg, seemingly pleading for mercy as the assault continues.
Haridwar police have arrested six individuals from both groups involved in the fight.
Police official Ritesh Shah confirmed that the dispute had started over a trivial matter but was quickly brought under control. He stressed that maintaining peace in the holy city is a top priority.
“Anyone attempting to disrupt the sanctity and peace of Haridwar will face strict action. Devotees come here from across the country, and such indiscipline will not be tolerated,” Shah said.
Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage, and further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
