Influencer With 1.3 Million Followers Arrested in Gujarat for Honeytrapping and Extortion

Surat:
Kirti Patel, a social media influencer with over 1.3 million followers on Instagram, has been arrested in Ahmedabad after evading authorities for more than 10 months. Patel was accused of honeytrapping a real estate developer in Surat and attempting to extort several crores from him.
According to police officials, a case was filed against Patel on June 2 last year. A warrant for her arrest was issued soon after. The FIR also named four others, all of whom had already been apprehended.
Police said Patel managed to avoid arrest by constantly changing her location within Gujarat and frequently switching SIM cards and phone numbers. “She kept moving across cities and using different internet connections to avoid detection,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Alok Kumar.
Patel was finally tracked to Ahmedabad’s Sarkhej area through a coordinated operation involving cyber and technical surveillance teams. “We also worked with Instagram to trace her location,” Mr. Kumar added.
Authorities said Patel is also named in multiple other complaints related to land grabbing and extortion. Police will now record her statement in these cases and continue their investigation.
The DCP urged citizens to report any cases of extortion directly at local police stations or to senior officers, including the ACP or DCP.
