Body of Missing Man Found in Ice-Cream Freezer in Chilling ‘Love Triangle’ Murder Case

In a chilling turn of events, Tripura police have uncovered the body of a missing man, Sariful Islam, inside an ice-cream freezer in Gandacherra market, Dhalai district—roughly 120 km from Agartala. The gruesome discovery comes close on the heels of the recent ‘honeymoon murder’ case in neighboring Meghalaya, shocking residents across the Northeast.

Sariful Islam, 28, an electrician employed under the Agartala Smart City Mission, had been missing since June 8. His death has now been linked to a deadly love triangle involving a woman and a 28-year-old doctor, Dibakar Saha, who is also the woman’s cousin and the alleged mastermind of the crime.

According to West Tripura senior police officer Kiran Kumar K, the motive behind the killing stemmed from a romantic entanglement. “Preliminary investigation indicates that both the victim and Dibakar Saha were involved with the same woman, leading to a fatal fallout,” he said.

Six individuals, including Dibakar Saha, his parents Dipak and Debika Saha, and three others—Animesh Yadav (21), Nabanita Das (25), and another unnamed woman—have been arrested.

The police revealed that Dibakar lured Sariful to a house in South Indranagar Kabarkhala, belonging to one Joydeep Das, under the guise of giving him a gift. Once there, Sariful was ambushed and strangled to death by Dibakar and his accomplices.

A trolley bag, bought two days earlier, was used to conceal the body. The next morning, Dibakar’s parents arrived from Gandacherra and transported the bag to their local shop, where they hid it inside an ice-cream freezer.

The breakthrough came after days of relentless investigation. Police tracked digital communications, including mobile messages, which pointed to the romantic motive behind the killing. All six accused were taken into custody on Tuesday night, and the body was recovered the following afternoon.

The suspects are scheduled to be presented in court on Thursday. Authorities continue to examine forensic and digital evidence to strengthen the case further.
