Lavish Wedding, Luxury Properties, and Corruption Charges: Telangana Engineer Under ACB Scanner

Hyderabad:
An executive engineer in Telangana’s irrigation department is under the scanner after the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) uncovered a massive haul of disproportionate assets linked to his name — including a destination wedding for his son in Thailand, luxury properties, and stakes in hotels.
Nune Sridhar, an Executive Engineer, reportedly led a lifestyle far beyond what his government salary could explain. On Tuesday, ACB teams raided 13 properties associated with Sridhar across Hyderabad, Warangal, and Karimnagar. What they found was startling.
According to officials, the raids uncovered:
- A sprawling 4,500 sq. ft. luxury flat in Hyderabad’s upscale Sky High complex
- Three more flats in Karimnagar
- A villa in Tellapur near Hyderabad
- Three independent buildings in Hyderabad, Warangal, and Karimnagar
- 19 prime residential plots across three cities
- 16 acres of agricultural land
- Financial investments in multiple hotels
- Large quantities of cash, jewellery, and bank deposits
The most eye-catching revelation? A high-profile wedding in Thailand for Sridhar’s son, with sources estimating the cost in crores.
Authorities also confirmed Sridhar’s involvement in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project — a mega initiative touted as the world’s largest multi-stage lift irrigation system — which has already been clouded by corruption allegations. The PC Ghose Commission probing the project’s irregularities has summoned former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao for questioning.
ACB officials stated that a case has been registered against Sridhar under charges of disproportionate assets. Investigators are now combing through documents, transactions, and property papers to determine if benami holdings or fraudulent contracts were involved.
Fallout from Medigadda Barrage Collapse
In a related development, Telangana’s Vigilance Commission has recommended criminal action against multiple senior officials and contractors involved in the Medigadda Barrage collapse, a crucial structure in the Kaleshwaram project.
A dam safety inspection had found serious execution flaws that caused Block No. 7 of the barrage to sink, triggering a massive financial loss. The DG of Vigilance and Enforcement has suggested filing criminal cases under the IPC, Prevention of Corruption Act, Dam Safety Act, and Public Demands Recovery Act.
Action has been recommended against 17 officers, including the former Engineer-in-Chief, Cheeti Muralidhar, and members of the contractor joint venture L&T-PES, which is accused of ignoring safety protocols and using poor construction methods.
Authorities have been instructed to initiate recovery for the cost of rebuilding the damaged block and to pursue legal action against the contractor for falsely claiming project completion certificates.
