“Drugged Or Deceptive?”: Honeymoon Murder Takes A Chilling Turn As Wife Claims She Was Victim Too

Lucknow/Shillong:
In a shocking twist to the tragic honeymoon murder of 26-year-old Raja Raghuvanshi, the prime suspect—his wife Sonam—now claims she was drugged and transported to Uttar Pradesh against her will. The case, already full of disturbing revelations, has now taken another dramatic turn with Sonam portraying herself as a victim.
Amitabh Yash, Additional Director General (Law and Order) of Uttar Pradesh Police, revealed, “Sonam told the police that she had been drugged and taken to Ghazipur. Around 3 AM on Monday, she called her family from a roadside dhaba along the Ghazipur-Varanasi highway. Her family, in turn, informed Madhya Pradesh police, which led to her detention. She was taken for a medical check-up and placed in a One-Stop Centre for further safety.”
However, the police aren’t convinced.
“She Thought She Could Outsmart Us”
UP Police officials believe Sonam’s version doesn’t hold up under scrutiny. “She is a very poor planner. She underestimated the thoroughness of the police investigation and thought playing the victim would protect her. But she failed,” said ADG Yash.
CCTV footage, digital evidence, and call records are now forming a damning body of proof against Sonam and her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha. Investigators believe the two plotted Raja’s murder, carried it out during the honeymoon in Meghalaya, and dumped his body in a secluded waterfall zone to delay its discovery.
“Meghalaya police cracked this complicated case with incredible precision. Their efforts were commendable,” added Mr Yash, clarifying that UP Police are not officially part of the investigation but will support if requested.
A Cold-Blooded Plot Or A Misguided Claim?
Raja Raghuvanshi, recently married in Indore on May 11, had left for his honeymoon with Sonam on May 20. Just three days later, he was reported missing. His body was eventually recovered near Weisawdong Falls in Meghalaya on June 2—brutally ending what should have been a joyful new chapter in his life.
Raj Kushwaha, believed to be Sonam’s lover and former employee, is now in custody. Raja’s brother, Vipul Raghuvanshi, said they were unaware of the alleged affair but recalled Sonam and Raj’s frequent phone conversations.
While Raja’s grieving family had initially refrained from pointing fingers, the evidence now emerging has left them stunned and seeking justice. “The planning involved in dumping the body in such a remote area shows how far they went to avoid detection,” Meghalaya SP Vivek Syiem told Media.
The hunt for truth continues, as the story of love, betrayal, and murder unfolds across states—from Indore to Shillong, and now to Ghazipur.
