Virat Kohli Named in Complaint After Bengaluru Stampede: Who’s to Blame for RCB Chaos?

What began as a celebratory event to honor Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has taken a tragic turn. A police complaint has been filed against cricket icon Virat Kohli following a stampede outside Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium that claimed 11 lives and injured dozens during RCB’s victory celebration.
The complaint, lodged by activist A.M. Venkatesh from the Naija Horatagaarara Vedike at Cubbon Park Police Station, accuses Kohli along with event organizers and RCB’s franchise management of negligence. The event, reportedly conducted without proper permissions, has sparked outrage and political tensions in Karnataka.
The FIR already filed names RCB, the event management firm DNA, and the KSCA administrative committee, charging them under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder, unlawful assembly, criminal force, and rash acts endangering lives.
Injured attendee Roland Gomes also filed a separate complaint stating that he was drawn to the event by RCB’s social media announcements, which promised an open bus parade. But poor crowd control near Gate 17 led to chaos and left him with a dislocated shoulder.
Amid rising public anger, a BJP delegation filed a parallel complaint against Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar, demanding their resignations. They allege that state leaders ignored warnings from police and intelligence officials and went ahead with the event for political gains.
Suspended Bengaluru Police Commissioner B. Dayananda had reportedly advised postponing the celebration, but his suggestions were overruled.
The tragedy has now turned into a political firestorm with accusations of administrative failure, celebrity irresponsibility, and government misuse of public funds.
