Man Stabs, Strangles 18-Year-Old Friend, Tries To Burn Body In Delhi

In a deeply disturbing incident that has shocked Delhi, an 18-year-old woman was brutally murdered by her male friend in Sanjay Van, Mehrauli, on Sunday. The victim had left home in the morning to attend classes at Delhi University’s School of Open Learning (SOL) but never returned.

Her mother last spoke to her around noon, when the young woman reassured her she’d be home soon. Hours passed, and with no word from her daughter, the worried family began searching and eventually received a puzzling call — from the father of Arshkrit Singh, the woman’s friend.

The man claimed his son had been attacked with a knife in Sanjay Van and was admitted to a hospital in Pitampura. Alarmed and confused, the girl’s family rushed to Sanjay Van, where they feared the worst.

They soon filed a missing report and told police about past altercations between their daughter and Arshkrit, suspecting foul play.

The investigation quickly escalated. CCTV footage placed Arshkrit and the victim together, leading police to detain him. During interrogation, Arshkrit confessed to a chilling crime: he had lured the victim to a secluded area, stabbed and strangled her, and then tried to burn her body to destroy evidence.

Police recovered her charred remains from the area and have since arrested Arshkrit. The knife used in the attack has also been recovered.

Forensic teams examined the crime scene and updated the FIR to include charges of murder and destruction of evidence under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The motive behind the murder is still under investigation, but the crime has sparked public outrage and grief — yet another reminder of the dangers women face, even from those they know.
