Bangladeshi Actress Nusraat Faria Granted Bail After Arrest in Attempted Murder Case Linked to Protests

Popular Bangladeshi film actress Nusraat Faria has been granted bail following her recent arrest in connection with an attempted murder case tied to last year’s anti-government protests.
On Tuesday, Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, presided over by Judge Mostafizur Rahman, approved her bail after her legal team submitted an application.
Faria, known for her roles in both Dhallywood and Tollywood, was taken into custody by Bhatara Police while attempting to travel abroad through Dhaka Airport. According to authorities, her name was linked to an attempted murder case stemming from an alleged attack on a student during a protest in the capital’s Vatara area in July of the previous year.
Police officer Mazharul Islam confirmed that Faria was detained at the airport based on immigration alerts and was questioned by detectives. “She is an accused in an attempted murder case. Whether she will remain in custody or be released was to be determined after interrogation,” he told ANI.
Reports suggest that Faria is one of 17 individuals, including fellow actors, named in the case. The Dhaka Tribune and bdnews24.com noted that a court had recently approved the charges against her, prompting authorities to act on the warrant.
Faria gained major recognition for portraying Sheikh Hasina in Mujib: The Making of a Nation, a high-profile biopic on Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father and first President of Bangladesh. The 2023 film, directed by acclaimed Indian filmmaker Shyam Benegal, was a joint Bangladesh-India production and marked a significant point in her career.
As legal proceedings continue, Faria’s arrest has sparked conversation across the entertainment industry and political circles alike, raising questions about the intersection of celebrity, activism, and legal accountability in Bangladesh.
