Neeraj Chopra Leads India’s Strongest-Ever Squad at Doha Diamond League on May 16

India is set to make its biggest mark yet at the prestigious Doha Diamond League on May 16, with four athletes representing the country — the highest-ever participation in a single Diamond League event for India.

Olympic gold medallist and world-renowned javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra will headline the Indian contingent. Chopra, who clinched the title in Doha in 2023 with a throw of 88.67m and secured second place in 2024 with 88.36m, returns with high hopes.

Joining him in the men’s javelin throw is Kishore Jena, who also competed in 2024 and finished ninth with a throw of 76.31m. The competition will be fierce, with top names like two-time world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada, 2024 winner Jakub Vadlejch from the Czech Republic, Germany’s Julian Weber and Max Dehning, Kenya’s Julius Yego, and Roderick Genki Dean from Japan all in the mix.

Adding to India’s strength, Gulveer Singh, the national record holder in the men’s 5000m, will make his Diamond League debut. He’ll be joined by Parul Chaudhary, who holds the national record in the women’s 3000m steeplechase.

With four Indian athletes competing across track and field, this edition of the Doha Diamond League promises to be a proud moment for Indian athletics.
