“Next 48 Hours Crucial”: BCCI Eyes IPL 2025 Resumption After Ceasefire Eases Tensions

With tensions between India and Pakistan showing signs of de-escalation following a mutual ceasefire, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is now considering the potential resumption of IPL 2025, which was suspended for a week amid rising security concerns.

A senior BCCI official told NDTV that the board is keeping a close watch on the evolving situation and will begin crucial consultations within the next 48 hours. “The IPL was suspended for seven days starting Friday, and we are now on day two of that suspension. In the next two days, discussions will begin with franchises, broadcasters, sponsors, and state associations,” the official said.

The IPL 2025 season was abruptly halted with 16 matches remaining after the border conflict following the terror attack in Pahalgam and India’s military response via Operation Sindoor sparked fears of a broader conflict. The alarming situation forced the BCCI to pause the tournament in the interest of player and public safety.

The tension spilled onto the cricket field as Thursday’s match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala had to be abandoned midway. With Dharamsala airport shut due to security concerns, both teams were transported by bus to Jalandhar before catching a train to Delhi.

Now, with both nations committing to a ceasefire, the path to resume the tournament is being actively explored. The BCCI emphasized that final approval will hinge on guidance from the Indian government.

“Given IPL’s stature and the current national sentiment, it’s essential to consult with the Government of India before locking in any restart date. Once consultations are complete, we’ll announce the new schedule in due course,” the BCCI source added.

Cricket fans across the country—and beyond—will be watching closely as the next 48 hours could determine the fate of the IPL 2025 season.
