“Prepared for Any Threat”: India Ramps Up Security Drills Amid Rising Tensions With Pakistan After Pahalgam Attack

As tensions continue to rise between India and Pakistan following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22 that claimed 26 lives, India has begun a massive nationwide preparedness effort. The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to conduct a routine but strategically significant military exercise in Rajasthan along the International Border from Wednesday night till early Friday morning.

This comes alongside a major civil defence drill ordered by the Union Home Ministry, set to take place across 244 locations in the country. These drills aim to prepare both civilians and forces for complex new threats in light of the recent surge in cross-border tensions.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, after meeting with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, made it clear that the masterminds behind the Pahalgam terror strike will be hunted down to the “ends of the earth” and punished “beyond their imagination.”

Highlights of India’s Nationwide Response:

Air Force Exercise: A NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) issued indicates that the IAF will conduct operations from 9:30 PM Wednesday to 3:00 AM Friday in Rajasthan near the Pakistan border.

Maharashtra Mock Drills: 16 key locations across 10 districts—including Mumbai, Pune, Thane, and Nashik—will conduct civil defence drills. Over 10,000 volunteers from Civil Defence, NCC, and Home Guards will participate.

Nationwide Preparedness: States have been directed to activate mock drills simulating air raid scenarios, a move not seen in decades, reflecting the heightened alert.

Air Raid Protocols: Four air raid warning types will guide civil defence actions:

Message-Yellow: Confidential forecast of possible air attacks.

Message-Red: Enemy aircraft likely to strike imminently.

Message-Green: Threat has passed.

Message-White: Earlier warning withdrawn.

The drills include real-time coordination between Air Force radar tracking and ground-level response units to simulate enemy aircraft detection, public warnings, and defensive measures.

India’s defence mechanism is not just being sharpened but put on active readiness as the government signals zero tolerance to cross-border terrorism. The renewed drills underscore a clear message: India is vigilant, prepared, and unwilling to let such acts go unanswered.
