Nirmal Surinder Kapoor Passes Away at 90: Kapoor Family and Bollywood Fraternity Mourn the Loss of a Beloved Matriarch

Nirmal Surinder Kapoor, the deeply respected mother of Anil Kapoor and Boney Kapoor and wife of late film producer Surinder Kapoor, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on May 2, 2025. She breathed her last at Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
The Kapoor family gathered at Anil Kapoor’s residence in Juhu on Saturday to perform her last rites. Her passing marked the end of an era for the Kapoor clan, and many from the film industry arrived to offer condolences and pay their respects.
Among those present were Sonam Kapoor and her cousin Arjun Kapoor, who arrived together, visibly moved. Actress Rani Mukerji, a close family friend, stood in solidarity with the family during this time of grief. Janhvi Kapoor, accompanied by her sister Khushi Kapoor and her rumoured partner Shikhar Pahariya, was also seen mourning the loss of her grandmother.
Bollywood personalities including Karan Johar, Anupam Kher, Javed Akhtar, Jackie Shroff, Ananya Panday, and Veer Pahariya also visited to offer their condolences and support.
On Friday evening, Anil Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor escorted their mother’s mortal remains home in an ambulance, with Arjun Kapoor and Reena Kapoor by their side.
Boney Kapoor shared an emotional tribute on Instagram, writing:
“Passed away peacefully on the 2nd of May, 2025, surrounded by her beloved family. She lived a full and joyful life, leaving behind four devoted children, loving daughters-in-law, a caring son-in-law, eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a lifetime of treasured memories.”
Married in 1955 to Surinder Kapoor, Nirmal Kapoor was not just the pillar of her family but also a quiet strength behind one of Bollywood’s most iconic film dynasties. Her life, filled with love, warmth, and grace, will be remembered and cherished by many.
