Man Accused of Killing Roommate and Dumping Her Remains in Suitcase Near Cemetery

In a disturbing case out of Connecticut, a 68-year-old man has been charged with the murder of his roommate, Suzanne Wormser, after her dismembered body was discovered inside a suitcase left near a cemetery. Donald Coffel, who was arrested last Friday, reportedly confessed to the brutal killing and provided chilling details to investigators.

Authorities say Coffel admitted to striking the 58-year-old woman in the head with a baseball bat inside the apartment they shared. He then lived with her body for more than a week before dismembering it. According to police, Coffel placed parts of her remains into two garbage bags—disposing of them in trash bins—and placed her torso in a suitcase, which he left at the entrance of a nearby cemetery.

The grisly discovery was made on March 19 when a passerby noticed the abandoned suitcase and contacted police. Upon opening it, officers found human remains later confirmed to belong to Ms. Wormser. Investigators determined the suitcase had been there since mid-February.

Further searches of the shared apartment revealed a baseball bat with human hair, significant blood evidence, a handsaw, and garbage bags containing the victim’s personal items, including her wallet and identification cards.

The medical examiner ruled Wormser’s death a homicide on April 9. Police believe Coffel acted alone. He is now facing multiple charges, including murder, evidence tampering, and improper disposal of a body. Due to health concerns, Coffel appeared virtually in court and is currently held on a $1 million bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 10.
