Abandoned House in Dandeli Reveals Stash of Fake Notes Meant for ‘Movie Shooting’

An abandoned rented house in Dandeli’s Gandhinagar Layout turned into a crime scene after police discovered bundles of fake Rs 500 notes inside. The notes, bizarrely printed with “Reverse Bank of India” and the label “Movie Shooting Purpose Only,” lacked essential security features like serial numbers and the governor’s signature.

The house was rented by Noorjan Junjuwadkara to Arshad Khan, a native of Goa. However, Arshad had not been seen for over a month. Concerned by the tenant’s sudden disappearance and spotting the back door left ajar, Noorjan contacted the Dandeli City Police. When the police forced entry, they stumbled upon the fake currency hidden inside.

Authorities have launched a full-scale investigation to verify whether the notes were genuinely intended for film production or part of a larger counterfeit operation. District Superintendent of Police M Narayan has instructed Deputy SP Shivanand NM to lead the inquiry.

“We have called Arshad Khan for questioning. If he does not cooperate, steps will be taken to bring him in. Further action, including filing an FIR, will be decided based on his statement,” Deputy SP Shivanand confirmed.

This is not the first time Dandeli has witnessed counterfeit note cases, raising concerns about the growing misuse of fake currency in the region.
