Glamour, Power & Love Collide: Bhumi Pednekar and Ishaan Khatter Spark in Netflix’s The Royals

The trailer for Netflix’s much-awaited series The Royals dropped on Monday, offering a heady mix of opulence, legacy, and a spark-filled romance set in a world where grandeur is slipping through royal fingers. Starring Bhumi Pednekar and Ishaan Khatter in lead roles, the show is set to premiere on May 9.

Set in the fictional princely estate of Morpur, The Royals explores the fading world of aristocracy where titles still matter — but the money doesn’t. Ishaan plays a polo-loving modern ‘prince’ grappling with the reality of his family’s financial downfall after his father’s death. Bhumi, on the other hand, steps in as a sharp, ambitious entrepreneur with a proposal to turn the family’s heritage palace into a boutique stay to help revive their legacy.

The trailer hints at a slow-burn romance — one that begins with tension and ego clashes but soon simmers with undeniable chemistry. As Bhumi’s character brings her no-nonsense energy into the old-school royal household, sparks — and punchlines — fly.

The supporting cast reads like a dream: Sakshi Tanwar, Zeenat Aman, Nora Fatehi, Dino Morea, Milind Soman, Chunky Panday, Alyy Khan, and Vihaan Samat bring a range of characters and quirks to the story.

Directed by Priyanka Ghose and Nupur Asthana, and written by Neha Veena Sharma, The Royals is produced by Pritish Nandy Communications. It marks Bhumi’s first leading role in a streaming series and comes shortly after Ishaan’s global success in The Perfect Couple opposite Nicole Kidman.

Expect drama, romance, nostalgia, and a lot of royal flair when The Royals begins streaming on Netflix this May.
