Karan Adani Meets India’s Shanghai Consul General Pratik Mathur, Talks Global Growth & Connectivity

New Delhi:
In a significant meeting underscoring India’s growing global presence in logistics and infrastructure, Pratik Mathur, India’s Consul General in Shanghai, met with Karan Adani, Managing Director of Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd (APSEZ), to explore potential areas of growth in the logistics and connectivity sectors.

The two discussed regional economic developments and how Indian companies like Adani Ports are expanding their footprint across the globe. Sharing about the meeting on X (formerly Twitter), Mr Mathur said, “Indian companies are going global,” and highlighted his discussions with Karan Adani on the evolving economic landscape and collaborative opportunities in logistics.

Pratik Mathur, who took over as Consul General in Shanghai earlier this year, brings a wealth of diplomatic experience, including his recent role as Minister (Political) at India’s UN Mission in New York and prior postings in Washington D.C. and Beijing. He also served on the Indian team at the UN Security Council between January 2021 and December 2022.

Meanwhile, APSEZ continues to expand internationally. Just last week, its Board of Directors approved the acquisition of Abbot Point Port Holdings Pte Ltd (APPH), Singapore—a major move to scale up operations at the North Queensland Export Terminal (NQXT) in Australia. NQXT currently handles 50 million tonnes per annum, and this acquisition is expected to accelerate APSEZ’s goal of managing 1 billion tonnes annually by 2030.

Earlier this month, Karan Adani also announced the operational launch of the Colombo West International Terminal (CWIT) in Sri Lanka—a massive $800 million investment. The terminal is set to become a key regional hub with the capacity to handle 3.2 million TEUs annually and create thousands of local jobs.

This meeting between Karan Adani and Pratik Mathur reflects India’s increasing global outreach and collaboration in infrastructure, logistics, and economic diplomacy.
