Manipur Launches Statewide Verification Drive for Arms Licence Holders and Dealers

In a move to tighten arms regulation, the Manipur government has directed all district administrations to begin verifying the documents of arms licence holders and dealers across the state.
According to an official statement issued on Saturday, the Commissioner (Home) has instructed deputy commissioners to oversee the process in their respective districts. The initiative aims to ensure all firearm documentation is current, valid, and in compliance with the law.
Authorities have warned that failure to comply with the verification order could result in penalties, including the cancellation of arms licences.
As part of the drive, Manipur Police have also issued a district-specific directive for Kangpokpi, requiring all licence holders and dealers to submit self-attested copies of their arms licences, along with a filled-out verification form, to their nearest police station by April 25.
Local bodies have been asked to inform and assist residents in their areas to ensure full participation in the verification process.
The verification effort comes amid ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and accountability regarding arms possession in the state
