Bihar Teen, Presumed Dead And Cremated Over Month Ago, Returns Home Alive

In a story that feels straight out of a movie, a 17-year-old boy from Bihar’s Darbhanga district — believed to be dead and even cremated over a month ago — stunned his family and officials by walking into court alive and well.
The teen’s family had earlier performed his last rites and received a ₹4 lakh compensation from the government, after a mutilated body, found along railway tracks on February 26, was identified as his.
But on Thursday, the same boy appeared before the Darbhanga District Court and revealed that he had been kidnapped. According to his statement, he was abducted while playing cricket by a group of men who drugged him. He later realized he had been taken across the border to Nepal. Miraculously, he managed to escape and contacted his brother via video call. His brother then traveled to Nepal and brought him back home.
Interestingly, instead of approaching the police, the teen decided to present himself directly before the court.
Darbhanga SDPO Amit Kumar stated that police are now trying to determine the identity of the person who was actually cremated, and they will be questioning the returned teen as part of the investigation.
Locals recall that the teen’s family had lodged a missing persons report on February 8. Weeks later, when an unrecognizable, severely injured body was found near the railway tracks in Allalpatti, police handed it over to the family, confirming it to be the missing teen.
Now that the teen is back, alive and with a shocking story of abduction, many questions remain — especially about the real identity of the body cremated in his name and how the abduction went unnoticed. Further investigation is underway.
