Fadnavis Faces Legal Challenge Over 2024 Assembly Win, High Court Issues Summons

In a significant development, the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court has issued a summons to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in response to a petition challenging his 2024 electoral victory from the Nagpur South West assembly constituency.
The petition was filed by Congress leader Prafulla Vinodrao Gudadhe, who lost to Fadnavis by a margin of 39,710 votes in the November elections. Gudadhe has alleged serious procedural irregularities and corrupt practices during the poll, urging the court to declare the BJP leader’s win “null and void.”
Justice Pravin Patil has scheduled the matter for further hearing on May 8. Gudadhe’s legal team, represented by advocates Pavan Dahat and AB Moon, argued that several mandatory election norms were ignored during the process.
The 2024 state elections saw the Mahayuti alliance secure a sweeping victory, capturing 230 out of 288 seats, which paved the way for Fadnavis to return as Chief Minister.
In a related move, the High Court has also issued summons to BJP legislators Mohan Mate (Nagpur West) and Kirtikumar Bhangdia (Chimur, Chandrapur district) in connection with similar petitions challenging their poll wins.
