Bangladesh Star Player Mushfiqur Rahim Declares Retirement From ODI Cricket

Bangladesh’s veteran wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim has announced his retirement from One Day Internationals, bringing an end to a remarkable 19-year career in the format. The 37-year-old cricketer shared the emotional news on Instagram, citing the past few weeks as particularly challenging and expressing gratitude for his journey.

“I am announcing my retirement from the ODI format as of today. Alhamdulillah for everything. While our achievements may have been limited on a global level, one thing is certain: whenever I stepped onto the field for my country, I gave more than 100% with dedication and honesty,” Mushfiqur wrote. He also shared a verse from the Quran, reflecting on fate and acceptance, and thanked his family, friends, and fans for their unwavering support.

Mushfiqur made his ODI debut in August 2006 against Zimbabwe but did not get a chance to bat or showcase his skills with the gloves. However, it was just the beginning of a legendary career that saw him become one of Bangladesh’s most accomplished cricketers. Over 274 ODIs, he amassed 7,795 runs at an average of 36.42, including nine centuries and 49 half-centuries. His contributions as a wicketkeeper were equally impressive, with 243 catches and 56 stumpings to his name. He retires as Bangladesh’s second-highest ODI run-scorer, behind only Tamim Iqbal.

Unfortunately, Mushfiqur’s final Champions Trophy campaign did not go as planned. He was dismissed for a golden duck by Axar Patel in the opening match, managed just 2 runs in the next game, and was denied a farewell innings due to rain in Rawalpindi.

Despite the bittersweet ending, Mushfiqur Rahim’s impact on Bangladesh cricket is undeniable. His dedication, resilience, and passion have left an everlasting legacy, inspiring generations to come.
