India and US Kickstart Collaborations on Defence, Technology, and Trade After Modi-Trump Talks

Pune: Just days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former US President Donald Trump laid out a shared vision for stronger ties, India and the US have begun working on key areas of cooperation.
US Consul General Mike Hankey announced that discussions are underway with leading Indian institutions, including research bodies, academic organizations, and private sector players. The focus areas include defence, technology, energy, and critical minerals, aiming to boost research partnerships, economic ties, and commercial opportunities.
“We are moving forward with the commitments made by President Trump and PM Modi to create a more prosperous future for our people. Our goal is to maintain strong government, research, and business engagement, ensuring our people can achieve their ambitions,” Hankey said.
The US is also prioritizing a free and open Indo-Pacific while strengthening trade and investment opportunities between the two nations.
As part of these efforts, Tom Lograsso, Director of the Critical Materials Innovation Hub at Ames National Laboratory, has arrived in India. He is meeting key industry and academic leaders from institutions like NCL, IISER, IIT-Bombay, and Symbiosis International University to explore potential collaborations in critical materials research.
This renewed engagement highlights the commitment of both nations to deepen strategic and economic partnerships while fostering innovation and development.
