Reliance Industries Under Fire: Negligence Allegations Surface After Deadly Blaze at Raigad Plant

Mumbai, February 13 – A tragic incident at Reliance Industries Limited’s (RIL) Patalganga Linear Alkyl Benzene (LAB) plant in Raigad district, Maharashtra, has left one worker dead and six others critically injured, sparking allegations of negligence and safety lapses at one of India’s largest industrial giants.

The fire broke out on Wednesday evening under circumstances that remain unclear. According to a police official, the blaze claimed the life of Digvijay Kumar Rambahadur Singh, 36, who sustained severe burns and succumbed to his injuries. Singh, a resident of Bihar, was employed with Rotostat Service Private Limited, a contractor associated with RIL at the Patalganga facility.

Six other workers, identified as Manoj Kumar, Sunny Kumar Singh, Arun Kumar Ramswaroop, Balram, Sarvesh Kumar Nandlal, and Sanjay Upredas, hailing from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, suffered critical burn injuries. They were immediately rushed to the National Burns Centre in Navi Mumbai for medical treatment.

Despite the severity of the incident, Reliance Industries is yet to issue an official statement, raising concerns about transparency and accountability. Local authorities have registered an accidental death case at the Rasayani Police Station, but the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The incident has triggered widespread criticism, with labor rights activists and local residents accusing Reliance Industries of negligence and inadequate safety measures. Allegations of improper maintenance and a lack of emergency preparedness have fueled demands for a thorough investigation into the company’s safety protocols.

“This isn’t the first time such a tragedy has occurred at a major industrial facility. How many more lives will be lost before safety standards are prioritized?” questioned an activist from a local labor union.

Critics argue that the incident highlights a broader issue of industrial safety negligence in India, particularly among powerful corporations. With Reliance Industries facing increasing scrutiny, questions are being raised about the company’s commitment to worker safety and corporate responsibility.

As investigations continue, the victims’ families and the injured workers are left grappling with the devastating consequences of the incident. Labor unions are now calling for stringent action against those found responsible and for stricter enforcement of safety regulations to prevent future tragedies.

This incident once again brings to light the pressing need for accountability and enhanced safety standards in India’s industrial sector.
