Man Arrested for Smuggling Rs 6 Crore Diamond Necklace at Delhi Airport

New Delhi: A man has been arrested at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport for allegedly smuggling a diamond necklace valued at approximately Rs 6 crore. The passenger, an Indian national, arrived from Bangkok on Air India flight AI 356, according to customs officials.

Customs officers identified and intercepted the man based on profiling techniques. A detailed examination of his baggage led to the discovery of the diamond necklace, featuring an intricate chain with oval and rectangular diamonds connected to a striking square-shaped pendant. The pendant showcases a prominent yellow diamond encircled by multiple layers of clear diamonds.

The jewelry was appraised at Rs 6,08,97,329 (Six Crore Eight Lakh Ninety-Seven Thousand Three Hundred Twenty-Nine Rupees) and was seized under Section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962, which permits the confiscation of smuggled goods.

The man has been taken into custody and faces legal proceedings as per the Customs Act. Authorities have launched a thorough investigation to uncover more details about the smuggling attempt.
