CRPF Officer Poonam Gupta to Make History with First-Ever Wedding at Rashtrapati Bhavan

In a historic first, Rashtrapati Bhavan—the official residence of India’s President—will host a wedding on February 12, 2025. CRPF officer Poonam Gupta, currently serving as a PSO (Personal Security Officer) at the President’s House, has been granted special permission by President Droupadi Murmu to tie the knot at this iconic venue. The decision is a mark of appreciation for her dedication, professionalism, and exemplary service.
Poonam Gupta, an Assistant Commandant in the CRPF, will marry her fiancé, Avinash Kumar, who also serves as a CRPF Assistant Commandant and is currently posted in Jammu & Kashmir. The wedding will take place at Rashtrapati Bhavan’s Mother Teresa Crown Complex in the presence of close family members.
Poonam’s inspiring journey began in Madhya Pradesh, where she pursued a degree in Mathematics, followed by a post-graduation in English Literature and a B.Ed. Her determination led her to crack the 2018 UPSC CAPF exam, securing an All India Rank of 81. Over the years, she has served in challenging environments, including Naxal-affected regions in Bihar. In 2023, she made headlines for leading the all-women contingent at the 74th Republic Day Parade.
Her historic wedding at Rashtrapati Bhavan, one of India’s most prestigious landmarks designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, adds another milestone to her remarkable journey. Spanning 300 acres, with over 340 rooms, the grand residence is the world’s second-largest head of state home after Italy’s Quirinal Palace.
Poonam Gupta’s story is one of dedication, resilience, and breaking barriers—an inspiration for young women across the country.
