Rahul Gandhi Accuses Kejriwal of ‘Biggest Liquor Scam’ as Delhi Election Battle Heats Up

With the Delhi Assembly elections approaching, Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi launched a sharp attack on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of looting “crores of public money” through what he called the “biggest liquor scam” in the capital’s history. Gandhi criticized Kejriwal for failing to deliver on his promises of eradicating corruption, cleaning the Yamuna, and tackling pollution.

“The fight between ideologies was always between Congress and BJP, but then Kejriwal entered the scene, claiming he would bring a new kind of politics,” Rahul said at a rally. “He promised to root out corruption, clean the Yamuna, and control pollution. But what happened? Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia carried out the biggest liquor scam, looting crores from the people of Delhi.” He also mocked Kejriwal’s 2019 promise to drink Yamuna water to prove its cleanliness, saying, “Forget the Yamuna, I challenge him to drink Delhi’s water today—he won’t, because it’s unsafe.”

Meanwhile, Arvind Kejriwal made a direct appeal to BJP supporters, urging them to vote for AAP to continue receiving benefits from his government’s welfare schemes. He recalled an interaction with a BJP voter who praised AAP’s education reforms and admitted that no BJP-ruled state had better schools.

“If we lose, Delhiites will have to pay nearly ₹25,000 extra annually for services that are currently free—electricity, water, healthcare, bus rides for women, and quality education,” Kejriwal warned. “I told him, ‘You can remain a BJP supporter, but vote for AAP to protect your family’s financial security.’”

Kejriwal reiterated his claim that if the BJP comes to power, all welfare schemes will be scrapped, urging voters to choose AAP on February 5. However, BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have strongly refuted this, assuring that welfare programs will continue under their governance.

With Delhi’s 70 assembly seats up for grabs, the political battle is intensifying, setting the stage for a high-stakes election.
