FIR Filed Against Rahul Gandhi Over ‘Fighting Indian State’ Remark Amid Controversy

An FIR has been filed against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after his statement about “fighting the Indian state” sparked widespread controversy. The complaint, lodged by Monjit Chetia at the Pan Bazar Police Station in Guwahati on January 19, accuses Gandhi’s remarks of threatening public order and national security.

The FIR was registered under Sections 152 and 197(1)d of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which addresses acts that endanger the sovereignty, unity, and integrity of India. These sections classify the offense as cognizable and non-bailable.

Gandhi’s statement, made on January 15 during the inauguration of Congress’s new headquarters in Delhi, claimed, “The BJP and RSS have captured every single institution, and we are now fighting the BJP, the RSS, and the Indian State itself.”

The complaint alleges that Gandhi’s words were a serious threat to public order and national security. It claims that his remarks attempted to delegitimize the authority of the state and create a narrative that could incite unrest and separatist sentiments. Chetia also suggested that Gandhi’s frustration with repeated electoral losses motivated the remarks.

In the midst of this controversy, Rahul Gandhi launched a “White T-shirt Movement” on January 19, aimed at protesting against injustice and inequality. He criticized Prime Minister Modi for neglecting the poor and working class, accusing the government of focusing solely on benefiting a select group of capitalists. Gandhi said, “Today the Modi government has turned its back on the poor and the working class and has left them to their own devices.”
