Airbnb, Uber, and Lyft Step Up to Help Los Angeles Wildfire Evacuees

As Southern California battles devastating wildfires, companies like Airbnb, Uber, and Lyft are offering vital support to evacuees, providing housing, transportation, and relief to those affected by the crisis. With thousands displaced and nearly 2,000 buildings destroyed, these efforts are bringing much-needed help to residents struggling in the face of disaster.

Airbnb Offers Free Temporary Housing
Airbnb.org, the nonprofit arm of Airbnb, has partnered with 211 LA to provide free temporary housing to wildfire evacuees. This initiative targets residents from areas such as Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Altadena, Pasadena, Santa Monica, and Sylmar, offering them a safe place to stay after losing their homes or being forced to evacuate. 211 LA, a local nonprofit referral service, connects those in need with Airbnb hosts who are generously offering free or discounted stays. Impacted residents can access this service by filling out an intake form via 211 LA.

Uber and Lyft Provide Free Rides to Shelters
Rideshare companies Uber and Lyft are also playing a crucial role in supporting evacuees.

Uber: Offers free rides up to $40 for evacuees using the promo code “WILDFIRE25” in the app.

Lyft: Provides two free rides, totaling $50, for 500 riders using the promo code “CAFIRERELIEF25” in the app.

These free ride services will be available until January 15, 2025, to help residents reach shelters and safe locations during the ongoing crisis.

How You Can Help
Airbnb hosts can sign up to offer free or discounted stays through Airbnb.org. Hosts are also covered by damage protection and liability insurance. Individuals who wish to contribute can donate directly to Airbnb.org, with 100% of donations going toward providing emergency housing for those in need.

In these challenging times, the generosity of these companies is making a real difference in the lives of those affected by the wildfires.
