“Sunita Ahuja Opens Up About Life with Govinda: ‘You Never Know What People Do Behind Your Back'”

In a revealing conversation, Sunita Ahuja, wife of Bollywood actor Govinda, shared candid details about their 37-year-long marriage, highlighting both the quirks and complexities of their relationship. Speaking to Hindi Rush, Sunita reminisced about their early days, describing herself as a tomboy with short hair and a love for shorts—traits Govinda initially teased her about. “He used to call me a boy and wanted me to wear sarees all the time. Honestly, I didn’t even like him initially because he was so backward,” she said.
Sunita revealed that she had to take the lead in their relationship as Govinda was shy. “He was even scared to touch women,” she shared. However, she added that romance has never been his strong suit. “He’s not the romantic type, at least not in real life. Maybe now he is, but you never know what people do behind your back. Never trust a man. People change colours like a chameleon.”
The couple now lives in separate homes, with Govinda often staying at their bungalow while Sunita resides in their apartment with their children. “He loves talking and will gather 10 people to chat with late into the night, so he stays at the bungalow. Meanwhile, I live in the flat with my kids and my temple,” Sunita explained.
Reflecting on their marriage, Sunita expressed both humor and concern about Govinda’s behavior as he grows older. “When he was younger, he was too busy working to even think about affairs. But now that he’s over 60 and has time on his hands, I’m scared. Khaali baitha hai, kuch kar na daale (He’s idle; what if he does something)?” she said with a laugh.
She also joked about wanting a different kind of husband in her next life. “He doesn’t go on holidays, and I’m someone who loves eating pani-puri on the streets with her husband. We’ve never even gone to watch a movie together,” she revealed.
Despite rumors of affairs during Govinda’s career peak, Sunita admitted she wasn’t bothered then. “I used to feel secure earlier, but now I’m cautious. After 60, people sometimes lose their senses. Who knows what he does now?” she quipped.
Sunita’s lighthearted yet introspective remarks paint a picture of a long-standing marriage filled with love, humor, and its fair share of challenges.
