‘Built Homes for the Poor, Not a Sheesh Mahal for Myself’: PM Modi Criticizes AAP at Delhi Rally

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its leader, Arvind Kejriwal, during his first rally in Delhi ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. Without directly naming Kejriwal, PM Modi accused the Delhi government of prioritizing personal gains over the welfare of its citizens.

Speaking at Ashok Vihar, where he inaugurated development projects worth ₹4,500 crore, PM Modi contrasted his leadership with that of the AAP. “The country knows that I never built a home for myself. In the last decade, we provided 4 crore homes to citizens. I could have built a Sheesh Mahal for myself, but my dream was to provide homes to my people,” he said.

The Prime Minister criticized AAP for allegedly mishandling public funds and called their governance “aapda” (disastrous). He urged Delhi residents to “liberate themselves” from the current government. “Delhi’s people are saying they will not tolerate this disaster anymore—they will bring change,” he said.

Highlighting his government’s achievements, PM Modi announced the construction of 30,000 homes under the PM Awas Yojana in Delhi. He also promised the expedited development of the Narela sub-city.

Revisiting his stay in Delhi during the Emergency, PM Modi emphasized the importance of education for the poor and middle class. He criticized the AAP government for allegedly stalling central education schemes and underutilizing funds from the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. “Education is key for children to dream big. The BJP is ensuring better opportunities for the poor and middle class, from new Delhi University campuses to a new college in Najafgarh named after Veer Savarkar,” he said.

PM Modi also accused the AAP government of blocking central schemes such as Ayushman Bharat, which offers free medical treatment. He said, “I want to bring Ayushman Bharat benefits to Delhi, but the ‘aapda’ government is not allowing it. They are depriving the elderly of Delhi of free medical care.”

Highlighting the Union government’s contributions to Delhi, PM Modi pointed to projects like metro expansion, roads, colleges, and hospitals, alongside free ration for 75 lakh people. He urged voters to choose a government that prioritizes their welfare over personal luxuries.
