Pro-Khalistan leader Amritpal Singh’s father to launch political party in ’Sikh Sangat’ on Jan 14

Tarsem Singh, father of jailed activist and pro-Khalistan leader Amritpal Singh, announced plans to launch a political party in Punjab on January 14, coinciding with the Maghi Mela. The announcement will take place in Muktsar district in the presence of the Sikh Sangat, where the party’s name and agenda will be revealed.
According to Tarsem Singh, the party aims to address Sikh community concerns and will be led by his son, Amritpal, upon his release from prison. Until then, Tarsem Singh will oversee the party’s activities.
Amritpal Singh, known for heading the “Waris Punjab De” outfit, has been in Assam’s Dibrugarh Jail under the National Security Act (NSA) since his arrest in February 2023. He was detained after a high-profile clash at the Ajnala Police Station in Moga, where he and his supporters stormed the premises with swords and firearms, demanding the release of an aide.
Amritpal Singh, who contested the Lok Sabha elections last year as an Independent and won from Khadoor Sahib, remains a polarizing figure in Punjab politics. His supporters see him as a champion of Sikh rights, while others criticize his radical views and his self-styled comparison to Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.
The announcement of this new political party has sparked discussions about its potential impact on Punjab’s political landscape.
