Mahira Khan Reflects on Her Emotional Struggles After Viral Picture with Ranbir Kapoor: “I Thought My Career Was Over”

Pakistani actress Mahira Khan recently opened up about the personal and professional challenges she faced after a viral picture of her smoking with Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor created a media storm. In a candid interview with BBC Asian Network, Mahira shared the emotional turmoil she went through during that time, admitting that she feared her career might be over.

The picture, taken on the streets of New York, triggered rumors of a relationship between Mahira and Ranbir, while also leading to significant backlash for Mahira due to the smoking image. The actress recalled feeling devastated after the photo made headlines, particularly after reading an article titled “The Little White Dress” published by BBC, which questioned the future of her career. “I remember reading it and thinking, ‘Is my career over?'” she said.

Mahira confessed that the period was extremely tough for her, both personally and professionally. “I wouldn’t get out of bed, I was crying daily,” she shared. “It affected my professional and personal life. Lots happened on my personal side.” Despite the hardship, Mahira found the strength to move forward, bolstered by the support of her son, her fans, and the brands that stood by her.

Reflecting on the tough times, Mahira said, “I told myself, ‘Are you mad? This is going to end.'” The actress, who was already navigating her life as a divorced single mother, chose to remain quiet publicly and focus on her family. She acknowledged that some personal choices, including her marriage to Salim Karim last year, were right for her and her child.

As she continues to move forward, Mahira remains positive, embracing the journey and maintaining her professional composure. She will next be seen alongside Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed in the Netflix series Jo Bachay Hain Sang Samait Lo, set to release next year.
