Delhi Assembly Elections: BJP Set to Release Candidate List Soon, No CM Face Before Polls

As Delhi gears up for the 2025 Assembly Elections, the political landscape is heating up with three main contenders: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Congress, and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). While the BJP has yet to release its official list of candidates, both AAP and Congress have already announced their key contenders, with Congress fielding Sandeep Dikshit, son of former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, to challenge AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal in the high-profile New Delhi constituency.
Sources from the BJP reveal that the party is preparing to announce a strong candidate to take on Kejriwal, contrary to media speculation about a possible “friendly fight” or vote-cutting strategy. The BJP is also expected to hold a Central Election Committee meeting soon to finalize the list of candidates. Talks are underway with alliance partners like JDU and LJP about seat-sharing arrangements, with both parties reportedly seeking seats to contest in Delhi.
Regarding the election campaign, the BJP is likely to focus on the AAP government’s alleged failures and corruption, highlighting the multiple arrests of AAP ministers. The party is also expected to offer tickets to some of its former MPs who didn’t secure tickets in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, such as Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma and Ramesh Bidhuri. Speculation suggests that Parvesh could challenge Kejriwal, while Bidhuri may contest from Kalkaji against Chief Minister Atishi.
There has also been growing buzz around the possibility of Smriti Irani being named as the BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate, although sources have denied any official announcement at this time.
As AAP, which has held power in Delhi for the past decade, seeks a third consecutive term, the BJP, which has not won the capital since the 1980s, is hoping to leverage the issues of corruption and governance to make a comeback.
