Baba Siddique Murder Case: Two Accused Seek to Retract ‘Forced’ Confessions

MUMBAI: Two accused in the high-profile Baba Siddique murder case, Gurmail Singh from Haryana and Harishkumar Kashyap, have approached the special MCOCA court, seeking to retract their confessional statements. The duo claimed their confessions were “involuntary” and recorded under pressure by the investigating authorities.

Baba Siddique, a senior NCP leader and former Maharashtra minister, was shot in Bandra’s Nirmal Nagar on October 12 and succumbed to his injuries shortly after being rushed to a nearby hospital.

In their plea filed through advocate Siddharth Agarwal, Singh and Kashyap alleged that the investigating authority lacked evidence and had forced the confessions to falsely implicate them and others. The court has directed the investigating agency to file its response.

Meanwhile, 13 other accused were sent to judicial custody after their police remand ended on Monday. So far, the Crime Branch has arrested 26 individuals in connection with the case, including the alleged main shooter, Shivkumar Gautam.

On November 30, the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) was invoked against all 26 accused, who are currently in judicial custody. The investigation continues as authorities unravel the details surrounding the case.
