Kejriwal Criticizes Centre on Women’s Safety, BJP Hits Back with Swati Maliwal Case

At the Mahila Adalat event in Delhi, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal accused the BJP government and Union Home Minister Amit Shah of failing to ensure women’s safety in the national capital. The event, held on December 16 — marking 12 years since the 2012 Nirbhaya gang rape — saw Kejriwal highlighting BJP’s alleged negligence in addressing security issues for women.

“Ten years ago, you entrusted me with improving schools, hospitals, and water supply in Delhi — I delivered on my promises. But the responsibility of security lies with Amit Shah and the BJP, and they have failed,” Kejriwal said at Thyagaraj Stadium, as reported by PTI.

Hundreds of women attended the event, chanting slogans like “Nirbhaya Amar Rahe” and “Mahila Shakti Zindabad,” underscoring the demand for justice and safety.

Kejriwal emphasized that women’s safety is not just a political talking point for him. “Delhi’s women are not a vote bank; they are my mothers and sisters. Under AAP’s leadership, we installed CCTV cameras across the city and appointed bus marshals to strengthen safety,” he added.

The BJP, however, hit back by pointing to AAP’s handling of harassment allegations involving its MP Swati Maliwal and a party aide, questioning Kejriwal’s credibility on women’s issues.

The Mahila Adalat served as a platform for amplifying women’s voices while reigniting the political debate on safety and accountability in the capital.
