Sukhbir Badal Shot at During Golden Temple Seva, Assailant Arrested

In a shocking incident at the Golden Temple on Wednesday, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Sukhbir Singh Badal was shot at while performing his seva (service) outside the sacred site. Badal, who was seated in a wheelchair, narrowly escaped injury as the bullet missed him and struck a wall. The entire episode was captured on camera, showing the attacker approaching Badal and firing before being swiftly overpowered by onlookers and security personnel.

The assailant, later identified as Narayan Singh Chaura, was arrested on the spot. According to reports, Chaura has a criminal background, having crossed over to Pakistan in 1984 and been involved in smuggling weapons and explosives into Punjab. He is also accused in the Burail jailbreak case and has previously served jail time in Punjab.

Following the attack, SAD leaders, including Daljit Singh Cheema, condemned the incident, calling it a part of a larger conspiracy to destabilize Punjab. Cheema expressed gratitude that Badal was unharmed and urged Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to take more action to ensure the state’s security.

ADCP Harpal Singh confirmed that security arrangements were in place, adding that the shooter’s attempt to harm Badal was thwarted.
