Farmers’ Protest Causes Traffic Chaos on Noida Expressway, Ends After Temporary Resolution

Hundreds of farmers gathered near the Mahamaya flyover in Noida on Monday for a “Delhi Chalo” protest, disrupting traffic on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and causing major delays for commuters. The protest, led by Bhartiya Kisan Parishad (BKP) leader Sukhbir Khalifa, aimed to press the government for various demands, including legislation on Minimum Support Prices (MSPs), land allocation, and better compensation for acquired lands.

The situation escalated by noon as protesters pushed through initial police barricades, with some climbing over them, and others marching forward with banners and flags. This led to massive traffic snarls at the Delhi-Noida border, particularly on the Chilla border and the Delhi-Noida-Direct Flyway (DND). Commuters reported significant delays, with one resident, Aprajita Singh, noting it took over an hour to cross the stretch.

By evening, the protest moved to Dalit Prerna Sthal on Noida Link Road after a meeting between farmer leaders and Noida authorities. Khalifa announced that the farmers would give the government a week to address their demands before resuming the march towards Delhi.

The protest, supported by the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM), Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), and other organizations, highlights the ongoing tensions between farmers and the government. Senior police officials are monitoring the situation closely, as the protesters have threatened to resume their march if their demands are not met.

Despite the temporary resolution, the farmers plan to reconvene under the Mahamaya flyover on December 2 to continue their push for justice and fair compensation.
