Violent Protests Continue in Manipur as Amit Shah Holds Key Security Meeting Amid Rising Tensions

The situation in Manipur remains tense as violent protests continue to grip the state, with demonstrators clashing with authorities and ransacking party offices in response to the discovery of decomposed bodies in the Jiribam River. Union Home Minister Amit Shah convened a high-level meeting on Monday to assess the escalating security situation and coordinate responses with senior officials.
Protests have intensified in recent days, particularly following the discovery of a headless body of a child in the river, which has further fueled public outrage. These developments follow a deadly gunfight in the district, which claimed the lives of 11 militants and has left the state reeling. Reports indicate that a protester died on Sunday night amidst the ongoing unrest.
The bodies of several missing persons have been found near Jiribam, including six individuals—three women and three children—belonging to the Meitei community. They had been reportedly abducted from a relief camp in Borobekra by Kuki-Zo militants. This has significantly aggravated the volatile security situation.
In response, the Centre has decided to deploy an additional 50 Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) companies, totaling over 5,000 personnel, to Manipur to maintain law and order. The CRPF Director General A.D. Singh and senior officers from other CAPF units are already in the state to oversee security measures.
On Monday, Amit Shah met with top officials from the central and state governments to discuss the situation, urging swift action to restore peace and stability. The Home Minister stressed the need for immediate steps to quell the violence and prevent further escalation.
Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has called an emergency meeting with all BJP and allied MLAs at the CM’s secretariat in Imphal to discuss the recent withdrawal of the National People’s Party (NPP) and the worsening political and security climate in the state.
The escalating violence and rising tensions between various communities in Manipur have left the state on edge, with authorities focusing on restoring calm ahead of the critical days ahead.
