Police Arrest Main Accused in Baba Siddique Murder Case After Month-Long Manhunt

In a significant breakthrough, police have arrested five individuals, including the key shooter Shiva Kumar, in connection with the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique. The arrests took place in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, as the group attempted to flee to Nepal following a month-long pursuit by authorities.

Baba Siddique, a former Maharashtra MLA, was shot outside the office of his son, Zeeshan Siddique, on October 12 in Mumbai. Despite being rushed to the hospital with two gunshot wounds to the chest, he tragically succumbed to his injuries later that night. While two shooters — Gurnail Singh and Dhramraj Kashyap — were apprehended shortly after the incident, the main suspect, Shiva Kumar, evaded capture for weeks.

The investigation revealed that Shiva Kumar had initially escaped to Omkareshwar in Madhya Pradesh. Determined to catch him, Mumbai Police began tracking nearly 45 individuals believed to be connected to Kumar. Focusing on four suspects who remained in close contact with him, the police laid a strategic trap.

The joint operation involved a team of six officers and 15 personnel from the Mumbai Police and the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF). According to UP Police ADG Amitabh Yash, the accused were intercepted while attempting to cross into Nepal. Alongside Shiva Kumar, four others — Anurag Kashyap, Gyan Prakash Tripathi, Akash Srivastava, and Akhilendra Pratap Singh — were arrested for aiding Kumar in evading capture.
